About the role and what we’re looking for

The aim of the Property Asset Management Team is to ensure that all properties are maintained safely, the facilities that we manage are run efficiently, and that we ensure customer service and best practice are given priority. The mobile response technician role will support the property asset management team to deliver total building cover. They will provide a broad range of maintenance skills to maintain our civic building, and also to provide maintenance cover to the whole property portfolio across both South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse Districts.

Main duties and responsibilities

To be part of a team delivering total building cover from 7am to 7pm through a split shift (7am – 3pm & 11am - 7pm). The role provides unlocking/locking up duties and fire/intruder alarm cover at Abbey House, Abingdon, or to cover core hours undertaking maintenance depending upon the rota requirements.
To ensure that the property asset management team deliver efficient task management, good quality maintenance works, and always ensure the health and safety of themselves and others.
To conduct planned preventative maintenance checks accurately and on time and record them legibly.
Where required, to carry out reactive maintenance and building repairs.
To support safe working practice through sub-contractor management and proactive reporting of observations, near-miss or incidents.
To ensure that accurate and appropriate records are kept and updated using both IT and manual systems, ensuring that confidentiality and data protection are observed – this will be supported by our admin team and training will be given by the MRT lead to ensure documentation is stored correctly.
Measuring material quantities accurately, ordering materials, and being responsible for the recording of maintenance expenditure and passing receipts and contractor documentation to the central Helpdesk Admin team.
To manage key signing in and out, both by yourself and contractors, for the keys needed for maintenance access across the managed property portfolio.
Working outside regularly to inspect properties & pathways. The duties may vary from time to time without changing the nature of the post or the level of responsibility, and the post holder may also be required to carry out any other duties appropriate to the grading of the post.

About you

Your essential skills, knowledge, and experience

You must be able to provide rota cover between 7am – 3pm or 11am – 7pm. You may be asked to change shifts to cover sickness and holiday cover occasionally. You may be asked to work extended hours or weekends very occasionally to facilitate safe working out of business hours. We endeavour to ask for staff to volunteer within the team to cover this.
You must hold a full UK Driving Licence, be able to drive a fully loaded van safely, and have access to your own vehicle for work purposes.
You must have experience in maintenance works – we are looking for someone with a broad range of maintenance skills, but perhaps one predominant skill (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, or building works). You will be required to provide maintenance support to most issues. We would expect you to undertake training in areas of safety and compliance to ensure that you are competent to complete maintenance works.
You must demonstrate a responsible attitude to conducting planned preventative maintenance checks in accordance with legislation or good working practice.
You must be able to measure accurately and put together a materials order for maintenance tasks and legibly complete maintenance records.
You must demonstrate a solid understanding of health, safety, and statutory compliance within property operations.
Customer service experience including dealing with members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Be physically able to work at height, lift reasonable loads safely(training will be provided) and travel across the councils’ property portfolio

Your essential qualifications

An ability to read and follow detailed instructions closely, and write legibly to ensure maintenance records and health and safety warnings are clearly understood.
IT literacy, ability to use Microsoft packages (Outlook Word etc.) and good use of mobile technology.
A full UK Driving Licence is essential (we will not accept applications without this).

If you have the following experience or qualifications – it’s a bonus

Health and safety knowledge.
Vocational qualification in trade skills.
Specialism in trade skill with broader experience in all other maintenance.
In-house/on-the-job training record.
Accredited training certificates for maintenance or safety compliance.
Familiarity with both districts.
