Guaranteed ContractsWhat is the role of a Shovel Driver?

Working as a Shovel driver across the Humber Ports within a team to ensure the safe discharge of cargo, shovel drivers are critical to the function of the port. Ports operate 24/7 so flexibility is essential to success within the role.

Operating a Loading Shovel to safely load an unload cargo
Working with both bucket and blade attachment
Operating a Loading Shovel to Load hoppers and trains
Operating a Loading Shovel within both a shed environment and within vessel operations
Quayside duties as required which may include Slinger Banksman under the crane or Operating other heavy plant and machinery
Completing daily machinery checks
Working as part of a team to ensure safety within all operationsWhat experience do you need to be a Loading Shovel Driver?

To be a successful tug driver you must have a good understanding of Health and Safety as well as a Full UK Driving licence, experience driving Heavy Plant such as Loading Shovel, Material Handler or Digger Driver is highly desirable.

Full UK Driving Licence
Previous experience operating a Loading Shovel within a shed environment is highly desirable however training can be provided
Previous experience as a Port Operative is desirable but not essential as full training can be provided
Experience operating heavy plant such as Loading Shovel, Material Handler, Tug driver, Crane Driver is desirable but not essential
Flexible approach to work
Keen to learn new skills
Experience within a Port environment is highly desirable however other industries will be considered such as Construction, Demolition and Agriculture
Previous experience in a similar role is highly desirable e.g. Shovel Driver, Roro Driver, Lorry Driver, Port Operative. Crane Driver, Tug Tipper Driver, Material Handler, Dumper Truck Driver, Forklift driver, Telehandler DriverIf you believe you have the right attitude and experience to thrive in a career within Ports please apply now!
